If you're a technology, construction, history, or mining nerd...this is worth your time. A Rust Belt relic from a different era. Very cool.
Awesome place to visit. The museum has some great pieces there. The main attraction can be seen way before you ever get there. Really a cool piece of history.
Driving through Kansas (Missouri to Colorado) with 3 kids under 8 years old. Despite all the 2-lane and back roads to get here, this only added about a half hour of actual drive time to our trip. We packed our own picnic and the kids had fun exploring this cavernous old shovel. It's hard to overstate the size of this thing; it really is enormous.
Absolutely loved it. Brought me back to when I was a child and visited here. The lady was great and wonderful and help. Was great in helping me pick out gifts for my friends and her children. Was a little disappointed that you can no longer go up into the boom. I was really looking forward to the view.
Staff is friendly and has a great sense of humor. I enjoyed my visit. A very nice place to visit. Awe inspiring what we can do when we put our minds to a task.
This was a great day trip. $8/adult to get into the museum and you actually get to tour Brutus. It is a awesome piece of equipment.
One of the things that's easy to miss is all of the long, skinny "lakes" surrounding this thing. It's a bit of an "aha" moment when you realize that these gigantic trenches were dug by the mining industry (very likely by Brutus himself). They stretch over miles and miles across the Kansas landscape and are stocked with fish for recreation now.
